Hey Friends...
January is crazy. Crazy busy. Crazy life. Crazy decisions that need to be made... I'm trying hard to keep everything moving forward right now, like a juggler with 6 balls in the air, if you drop one you drop them all. Hopefully I can keep all the balls in the air and survive this winter depression and all the challenges that lie before me right now. Not to get too heavy, but this has been one of the hardest moments of my life so far. I appreciate the love and support from you all and I'll be leaning on you to come support the music and help me keep focused on creating and delivering HQ music for you. Every piece of encouragement and love helps. Thank you for your kindness and support. A few shows coming up this month. Check the TOUR section for details. Highlights include a 2 night residency at the Minstrel Cafe in Kelowna on January 26/27. Help me out by spreading the good word for that weekend. Hope to pack the place both nights and deliver some inspiring shows! Big love to you all. I hope everyone is sticking to their new year's resolutions and finding light daily. BT Our Deepest Fear
From Marianne Williamson's book 'A Return To Love'.
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It's not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” BT Nation
When you release an album independently, and you don't have any staff on the payroll doing the logistical and administrative work, you spend hours of your day trying to manage everything except the music. No time for creativity. No space to play your instrument. Just hours of uploading photos and mp3's hoping somewhere along the line you've been diligent enough to reach out to new music lovers and push your way through this industry to a higher level.
Thankfully, ReverbNation does a lot of the work for you. I was pumped today to spend some time updating my site here with little aggravation. Dummy-Proof. Well, there are still a couple things I don't understand. But for the most part, it is really valuable for reaching NEW fans. That's the hardest thing to do. Every band or Artist has there 500 friends and family that they can prostitute themselves out to. They can even get another 200 or so hits from recommendations within that community. It's reaching people who have no relation or connection to you that is difficult. And completely necessary. People who seek out music, or come in contact with you contextually. Those people keep your career moving. So please, feel free to pass this page on to your friends. People who have never heard of Brent Tyler. Maybe they'll like it! Maybe they won't. But maybe you and your friends create a context for the music by sharing it with each other and in turn, I reach new ears and keep the dream alive;) Big Love. BT |
