BRENT TYLER

New Tour Poster

Hey Friends.

Want you to check out the new tour poster. You'll be seeing a bunch of different changes around the website and the branding you see of Brent 'Big Love' Tyler.

I hope you like it. I spent a bit of money to get some HQ images and design done recently in the hopes of creating a fresh new look. Fresh new music is next. I'm in cahoots with my band these days working on new tunes and scheduling recording and fundraising for a new album. I've applied for a couple grants too and I'll be leaning on you soon to make a new record a reality. Should have some live recordings available soon as well.

So many new things on the horizon. Need you to be patient with me as I try to overhaul my business and create a more focused plan of attack to get my music out there for you. I appreciate all the kind words and generous support. I hope to repay you very soon.

We're still trying to add a couple more shows on the way home from Winnipeg but we need to ask you a huuuuge favour...

PLEASE send word out to your friends and family in these cities and encourage them to put Grey's Anatomy and Family Guy on the PVR and get out to see a show!! We've been having an amazing time this month out on the road performing really intimate and interactive shows. We've been doing it songwriter style as we both get on stage at the same time and swap tunes back and forth. It's made the shows unique and we've been diving deeper and deeper into the stories about the songs. So much that it's really shed some new light on the songs and made this tour very emotional and real. We've been so encouraged and supported along the way and we can't wait to break some new ground in Edmonton all the way to Winnipeg.

For those of you that have made it out to a show already, we thank you! This business completely depends on the music lovers of the world leaving the comfort of their car or home and extending their listening experience to a live setting. Nothing gives you the context and depth of music like live performance. We appreciate all the people who've helped us live a dream come true and made this tour successful and rewarding, not just from a monetary standpoint;)

Big Love, No Money. Coming to see you Edmonton, Lloydminster, Saskatoon, Regina, Brandon, & Winnipeg!

BIG LOVE, NO MONEY

Brent Tyler & Calvin Locke 'BIG LOVE, NO MONEY' Tour is coming to a city near you...

Read all about it on Facebook here...

http://www.facebook.com/events/110408015755378/

Brent Tyler & Calvin Locke are two singer/songwriters from Calgary teaming up for a March long tour across western Canada performing soulful and heartfelt songs with an aggressive and engaging acoustic style influenced by the likes of Martin Sexton, John Mayer, Jack Johnson, Jeff Buckley, and Dave Matthews. Two dudes. Two guitars. 20+ shows in the month of March.

‘Big Love, No Money’ describes the larger than life hearts these two musicians have and is a reflection of their commitment to broadening their reach regardless of the monetary costs. It takes a level of discipline to continue to pursue musical dreams in a grey climate of global recession and a withering economy. A leap of faith is required. Imagining experiences that can never be replicated behind a computer in the comfort of your own home, Brent Tyler & Calvin Locke are heading out to shake some hands and kiss some babies. Make connections in new communities hoping to bridge the gap between their hearts desire and the music consumers of western Canada and beyond.

Songs stripped down from their studio production and performed in intimate venues where the lyrics and raw energy of their performance will surely connect with listeners. Introspective lyrics, ample guitar skills, and soulful voices will define this tour bringing these two creative forces together for a positive yin and yang of ‘Big Acoustic Love’.

Big Acoustic Love. This is the best description of Brent Tyler's music and live performance. An aggressive acoustic style combined with lungs befit of his seven foot stature. Brent Tyler balances the soft subltely of honest and introspective folk music with soulful and powerful pop hooks and melodies born of his childhood influences and contemporary crushes. After releasing his 2nd Album 'In Rhythm' in the summer of 2010, Brent Tyler has spent the last year adding highway kilometres and industry experience to his already accomplished resume. Highlights include opening slots for Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, The Watchmen, Julian Austin, & Joel Plaskett. Recently, Brent has been fortunate to share stages with other accomplished Canadian artists such as Wil, CR Avery, Ari Neufeld, & The Polyjesters.

Calvin Locke plays a soulful blend of acoustic and electric blues rock and pop. With a wide array of influences ranging from John Mayer to Bruce Springsteen to the Black Keys, his songs detail love in all of its forms. His unique guitar style makes the music both infectious and compelling and always delivers a soulful groove. In the past year Calvin toured across Canada to promote his debut EP “Yukon to St. John’s”. The tour lasted for 100 days and 17,000km and saw Calvin travel from Calgary to Whitehorse to Vancouver Island and then all the way to St. John’s. Calvin delivered a unique show playing right out of his Van in every city along the way. The tour was a unique way to have his music heard and also to raise money and awareness for The Will To Survive, an organization which supports the fight against Childhood Cancer. Calvin's history includes opening for artists such as Michael Bernard Fitzgerald, Calm Asa Coma, Brent Tyler, Danny Vacon, and has also previously shared the stage with John Wort Hannam and David Wilcox.

Busy month. If you could read into those show listings what would you derive from them?

Starts with a C ends with a Y and has algar in between.

I'm back in town. For awhile. Not sure how long. Not sure about a lot of things right now. Life has a way of forcing your hand into decisions whether you like them or not and this was one of those times. I feel fortunate and appreciative of all the new friends and connections I made in the Okanagan and hope to maintain those relationships and build on them. I am also grateful for all the friends and family back here who have been helping me through another transition in my life and making me feel loved. I'd be living a very different life without them.

I need your help, friends.

As we struggle through another winter doldrum, looking for inspiration and understanding, I offer you some respite in the form of music.

Most of my shows this month are FREE! The ones at Sociale & 4th Spot are mid-week but early shows! Both those venues have great drink and food specials that make it very affordable to come hang out. I know it's tough to get out to a show, but come down for a $5 glass of wine at Sociale on a Wednesday, or a $5 Wildrose beer on a Tuesday @ 4th Spot. Come down for a water. Just come down!

Videos. Coming soon. Two of them.

Music City Studio in Kelowna has been busy hosting a number of songwriters. I'll be posting a video of a song I did live in studio and a little interview. I'll also be posting a video from MCS of a song I recently wrote for a competition and I'll need your help getting it out to the world. Stay tuned for directions on how you can help!

Lots of stuff on the horizon. Please be sure to check www.brentyler.com often for updates and news. I'll do my best to keep you all in the loop!

Big Love.

January...

Hey Friends...

January is crazy. Crazy busy. Crazy life. Crazy decisions that need to be made...

I'm trying hard to keep everything moving forward right now, like a juggler with 6 balls in the air, if you drop one you drop them all. Hopefully I can keep all the balls in the air and survive this winter depression and all the challenges that lie before me right now. Not to get too heavy, but this has been one of the hardest moments of my life so far. I appreciate the love and support from you all and I'll be leaning on you to come support the music and help me keep focused on creating and delivering HQ music for you. Every piece of encouragement and love helps. Thank you for your kindness and support.

A few shows coming up this month. Check the TOUR section for details.

Highlights include a 2 night residency at the Minstrel Cafe in Kelowna on January 26/27. Help me out by spreading the good word for that weekend. Hope to pack the place both nights and deliver some inspiring shows!

Big love to you all. I hope everyone is sticking to their new year's resolutions and finding light daily.

Our Deepest Fear

From Marianne Williamson's book 'A Return To Love'.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It's not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
